Over the years, Jay has made quite a name for himself teaching photography workshops around the world. His students have gone on to win global photography awards, while others have taken the plunge and now work full-time as commercial photographers. At the same time, many just enjoy learning and improving their photography as a fun hobby. But we know that linking up for one of Jay’s photography workshops in far-flung destinations is not always easy, so Jay now offers online photo workshops and training, too! These sessions are different than most photography courses you see online. To start, they are actual one-on-one private live sessions with Jay that take place via Zoom or Google Meet. Jay is there to personally teach and help guide you to improve your photography, just like he would be in his sought-after in-person photography workshops.
You can choose to book a one-off session or course or book a photography workshop package of classes at a discounted rate. He also offers unique on-trip guidance where you can get feedback and advice in the field or even take a full workshop with Jay online during your next trip to any destination!

Learn Underwater Photography Online
Underwater Photography Basics
This foundational course lays the groundwork for getting awesome shots underwater. It’s perfect for beginners to build a solid base to grow from and great for more experienced photographers as a refresher. The presentation covers how light & color are affected by water, camera settings, learning to shoot in full manual mode, composition basics, utilizing natural light, photo tips & tricks, and much more. This takes the form of an online presentation via Zoom followed by a questions and answers session. We can also add a camera and/or housing set up session if you like.

Intro to Underwater Lighting (Strobes & Video lights)
This session introduces you to using artificial lights underwater, such as strobes or video lights. We’ll look at why lights are beneficial, how to use them, how to shoot them in manual mode as well as TTL, proper placement, how to minimize Backscatter, and review various light placement options to fit different styles of shots and scenes.

General Photography Workshops
Composition & Storytelling Crash Course
This classroom session teaches you how to create stunning compositions and visual stories. We start with a basic introduction to visual storytelling and work through 5 different visual storytelling and composition tools to prepare you to take your shots to the next level. The course also helps you build your own internal shot list so that when that amazing encounter happens, you are ready to capture it in an instant.

Intro to Commercial & Brand Photography
This session focuses on learning how to utilize your photography skills commercially for brands and magazines. It can either take the form of a Q&A discussion geared toward your specific questions or a more structured presentation on some of the theories and ideas Jay uses to work commercially and create commercial shoots for diving, travel, and outdoor recreation brands.

Pre-Trip Photography Refresher Course
Getting ready to take an epic trip somewhere special, but it’s been a while since you picked up your camera? This quick refresher course is designed just for you! We’ve all been there before. During this session, Jay will help you refresh your skills and techniques so you can get started with your vacation and capture those incredible moments. Whether it’s for underwater, landscape, wildlife, night sky, or just some sweet travel photography – Jay’s got you covered!
Price: $150 USD. Duration: 1hr
Photo Portfolio Review & Advice Session
Together, you and Jay will review a set of your chosen images or portfolio. He will provide feedback and suggestions and answer any questions you might have. These sessions are more casual and take the form of two friends chatting about their work. The images can be of any photography type or a mix of types. We recommend submitting a maximum of five images to discuss to get the most out of the session.
Price: $150 USD. Duration: 1hr
On-Trip Guidance Sessions
Imagine having Jay there to guide you and help you get the best shots out of your next trip or shoot! This package is as close to doing an in-person workshop with him. You’ll work together to create a schedule that works for your trip, and Jay will review images with you daily (or how often you prefer) to give feedback, suggestions, and tips to help you continue to improve your shots during the trip. He can also set custom ‘homework’ assignments geared to your trip to assist you with focusing on putting everything you’ve learned into practice. These can be 15 – 30 minute sessions (or up to 1 hour per session if you prefer) to not take away too much time from your vacation!
The price is based on what you would like from the program (e.g., the number of sessions, the length of the sessions, etc.). Contact us, and Jay can make recommendations based on the trip or shoot you are planning.

Learn Photography Editing Online
Intro to Adobe Lightroom for Editing Images
This Adobe Lightroom CC course teaches you how to use the software to edit your images and maintain a future-proof library of easily manageable and searchable images. The session will cover the complete post-production process—from importing photos to organizing your library, editing the images, and exporting them for print, digital, and social media. The course will focus on your choice of type of photography — underwater, astro/nightscape, travel, lifestyle, landscape, or brand photography.

Adobe Lightroom – Advanced Tools
This Adobe Lightroom CC course examines some of the more advanced tools available for editing images. We’ll work through how to use the different masking tools, examine color correction methods, utilize dodge and burn layers, and explore the new remove tools. We’ll also take a look at Lightroom Denoise AI, Topaz Labs Denoise, and Topaz Labs Sharpen. This workshop aims to take your editing from the basics to the next level to produce highly polished, beautiful images. This course requires you to have at least a general understanding of using Adobe Lightroom CC to edit RAW photos.

Learn Night Sky & Milky Way Photography Online
Nightscape & Milkyway Photography Basics
Ever wanted to capture beautiful photos of the Milky Way, stars, or landscapes at night? Then this is the course for you! During the session, you’ll learn how to create epic night sky photos. We’ll cover the equipment needed, shot planning, composition, and camera settings. We’ll also look at some great apps for finding the best times, weather, and places to shoot the night sky.

This online workshop will show you Jay’s tried-and-true method for creating beautiful star trail photos and how you can quickly turn those shots into an incredible timelapse video. We’ll cover shot planning, composition, timing, camera settings, gear, and how to assemble your final star trail shot easily.

iPhone Photography Workshops
Intro to iPhone Photography Workshop
This workshop is designed for those looking to use their iPhones as their camera to capture beautiful images. It’s also an excellent resource for those quick moments when you don’t have your primary camera available. The course covers the iPhone’s different photography settings and modes, tips to get the most out of phone photography, and how to edit photos in the iPhone’s native editing software or with Adobe Lightroom Mobile. We’ll also look at some awesome third-party apps for taking and editing photos on the iPhone. The course can be focused on using your iPhone for land or underwater photography — or both.

Custom Photography Workshop Session
This is an open one-on-one session to cover any photography, editing, or storytelling topic you’d like to discuss, improve on, or learn more about. In the past, my students have used these custom sessions to work on building plans for a new camera rig, to focus on improving a specific part of photography they were struggling with, or to learn new photography techniques or more advanced Photoshop or Lightroom techniques etc. etc… These sessions are for anything not covered in my other workshops and can be customized to almost anything you would like to learn or discuss. =) If you’d like to chat more before booking, please feel free to contact Jay by clicking here.

This package includes three custom 2-hour workshop sessions and one photo/portfolio review & feedback session. These sessions are for anything not covered in my other workshops and can be customized to almost anything you want to learn or discuss. =)
